Our Lotus Basin is hand carved from beige granite and is available in two sizes to fit a variety of applications. This is one of our most popular basins in that it is a traditional Japanese design that dates back to the earliest Shinto shrines where they held water used for ritual cleansing. The tea ceremony (sado), infused with the spirit of Zen, required a purity of mind and body. To this end, this stone basin was later included in tea gardens so that guests could symbolically dip their hands before entering the teahouse. Our 9" x 18" Lotus Basin is approximately 150 lbs. and will work equally well for interior design applications as it will in the garden. Our 13" x 24" Lotus Basin weighs approximately 350 lbs. and is best suited for outdoor applications. The larger basin is available with a fountain package for an additional $130, adding versatility and tranquility with the sound of trickling water.
