Arita Porcelain Tea Sets

Our Sake Sets are Arita porcelain - made from a special white clay found only in the western part of Kyushu Island in Japan.

The clay was discovered in the year 1616 by Lee Sampei who successfully made the first white porcelain in Japan. In the 17th century fine Japanese porcelain from the port of Imari began to find its way to the western world. The brilliant colors and delicate designs soon made Japan's name synonymous with porcelain. Traditional Imari and Koimuri designs from this period are still popular today .
