ARITA PORCELAIN

ARITA is well known throughout Japan and has a rich history. ARITA originated in the year 1616 by a Korean immigrant, Lee Sampei, who discovered the clay for white porcelain in the ARITA area (located at the west part in Kyushu Island of Japan) and successfully made the white porcelain there. In the beginning of the 17 th Century, Japanese potter Sakaida Kakiemon living in the town of ARITA succeeded in producing very colorfully designed porcelain which was epoch-making at that time. ARITA province became the most famous center of fine porcelain in Japan and the world of ARITA came to mean the highest quality porcelain of Japan. As ARITA porcelain was exported through Dutch East India Company to Europe from IMARI port, it was sometimes called "IMARI" or "Old IMARI".

Today ARITA porcelain is generally classified into three genealogies; Old IMARI style, KAKIEMON style and NABESHIMA style. ARITA is known for incorporating old world craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology to bring you the finest porcelain available. We are very proud in helping to continue the tradition and line of Arita porcelain in its many styles. Please feel free to contact one of our customer service representatives to discuss your fine porcelain needs.
